Dealing with Suspicious Emails that you think may be Phishing or Ransomware
Phishing is the hacker practice of fishing for information, typically user credentials. It is really hard to "crack" a user's password these days so hackers have resorted to tricks to get you to just hand over your password. It's much easier to trick a less-than computer savvy human than it is to actually "brute force" crack a password.
The biggest thing to be aware of is any attachment or link that takes you to a logon page. NEVER blindly provide your Christman provided credentials to an unknown logon page!!!
If you've received an email that you believe to be phishing or otherwise malicious, you can use the Phish Alert Report button in Outlook to report it to us:
By clicking this button, a sidebar will appear to provide more information:
PLEASE NOTE: While there is an option for reporting an email as spam, please only use this tool for reporting potentially malicious emails (credential harvesting, employee/department impersonations, or other things designed to trick you into providing your corporate information).
For web-based Outlook (as well as the "new" Outlook interface that's being rolled out), you can click on the ellipses next to the reply/forward icons, and select Phish Alert there:
For the Outlook mobile app (phone/tablet) it's similar. Click the ellipses in the upper-right of the message and select Phish Alert.
