My Mouse / Keyboard Stopped Working
There are several easy steps that can be done to troubleshoot a mouse/keyboard that has stopped working with your machine.
- First of all, make sure all of the USB connections are in place and do a full reboot of your system. This would include any USB cables and USB wireless receivers as applicable. Try unplugging and re-plugging in the USB cables/receivers.
- If the keyboard and/or mouse are external to your laptop, does the built-in keyboard/mouse on the laptop work? If neither work after a fresh boot you will need to put in a Help Desk ticket.
- If wireless, check and make sure the power button on the keyboard and/or mouse is on. If it has an LED, is that lit?
- Try plugging the USB cord (or wireless receiver) into a different USB port. If these are in an external dock, try moving the USB cord/receiver directly to a port on the laptop.
- If the keyboard has Caps Lock or Num Lock lights, do they turn on when toggled?
- You may need to re-pair a wireless keyboard/mouse with it's receiver. If you don't know how then contact Help Desk.
If after troubleshooting you still can't resolve the issue please put in a ticket and provide all the troubleshooting steps that you already attempted.
