I can't print!
This is a common issue that can have a million reasons why, and just as many solutions. However, sometimes it does just come down to needing to reboot. This is at least the first step you should take before putting in a ticket as that will be the first thing we ask you to do. If you are in Virtual Desktop make sure you do a FULL LOGOFF, reference this article.
If that doesn't do the trick here are some troubleshooting tips to try to isolate the problem down to: the document, the printer, Virtual Desktop, or your PC.
- Do you have the problem with ALL documents or just one (or a few?) Try a different document or just create a simple "test" document and print it.
- Try printing something from a different application. If you were using Word, try Excel.
- Is there another printer onsite? Try to print to that. Not so much as a work-around but to make sure YOU have the ability to print.
- Can someone else at your location print fine to the printer(s)?
- Can that person print the same document to the desired printer?
- If you are using Virtual Desktop, exit out to your local desktop and try to print something to the desired printer.
- Are there any error messages on the printer? Out of paper, paper jam, out of toner, off-line??? Is it on?
- Sometimes the printer could use a reboot. Turn the printer off for about 30 seconds and then turn it back on then try to print.
After doing these troubleshooting tasks, if you still can't print, put in a Help Desk ticket. Make sure to let us know all the steps you already took in troubleshooting!
