Can I store files on my laptop hard drive?
You are allowed to store personal content on the hard drive of your assigned physical PC, however you should be aware that any such content is not protected and will not be transferred by the IT department if you receive a new PC or require a new hard drive. Any content is your responsibility and it should not be your only copy. The company is not responsible for any loss of personal content. Any personal content that is stored on the company PC needs to be in good taste and should not interfere with the company’s reputation and should not impact your work performance. Any objectionable material found will be immediately deleted and reported to your supervisor. Personal content does not include installing software or programs on the PC.
Consequently, no work related document files should be stored on the local hard drive of your assigned PC. It is imperative that work related files get stored in an appropriate location on a network drive to ensure it gets backed up by the company tape backup system. If you have a laptop and need to work “off line” with files on the local hard drive, make sure they get copied back to a network drive at the earliest possible opportunity. Never maintain a repository of work files and documents on your local hard drive in which it is the only copy of such files. The local hard drive of your PC is not backed up and in the event of a hard drive failure all such content would be lost and not recoverable.
