Using your Microsoft account for the first time
Follow these steps to ensure you have a Microsoft account and how to set it up.
Your Christman Microsoft account is used whenever you access Cloud based Microsoft services such as Teams, Office web apps, web based Outlook, or SharePoint for example.
Watch a video on logging in the first time if you wish - click here
First thing's first - you need to actually have a Microsoft Account. Your Microsoft account will be the same as your email address. Use the link below to test it out.
http://login.microsoftonline.com/
- If this link simply took you to Outlook.com with "Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening" then you have an account, you are already authenticated, and you don't need to do anything further to set it up
If not - keep following the steps below... - Supply your email address on the Sign in screen and click next.
- You should get a Christman Branded login screen similar to this:
- If you get the Christman Branded login screen then you DO have a Microsoft account!! Go ahead and supply your Christman Password (the same one you use to log onto your PC), and see if you get logged in.
- If this is your first time using your Microsoft Account you may be prompted - "More information required" - Click Next
- You may get prompted to re-enter your password - go ahead.
- You should see a screen - "don't lose access to your account!
- Here you can verify Microsoft has the correct cell phone on file - either verify what's there or add yours with the "Set it up now" link. You will then get a text or phone call to verify it works. Microsoft may need to verify your identity using this number and if you ever forget your password, having this on file will provide you an easy way to reset it.
- Note - if you don't want to use your cell phone, you can provide your desk phone number and then use the "Call Me" button. Please be aware - you will need to have access to this phone for any verification calls.
- You can also setup an Authentication Email, which would have to be your personal email account. This is optional but would provide yet another way for Microsoft to verify you are who you say you are if you are having password issues.
- If successful, you will simply be taken to Office.com which is a Microsoft portal for all of their applications. Only applications you are licensed for will be available to you.
- If you DID NOT get the Christman Branded login screen then you either don't yet have a Microsoft account or you entered your email address incorrectly. If this is the case you most likely got a message saying "This username may be incorrect..."
- Please double check the spelling of everything.
- Please DO NOT try to create one yourself or try any recovery options. Put in a Christman Help Desk ticket for assistance. IT will need to make sure you are setup correctly.
